understanding of the Holocaust.
Edwin Black, a native Chicagoan and
son of Polish Holocaust survivors, is an award-winning writer and
journalist. He is the author of The Transfer Agreement, The Untold Story
of the Secret Pact Between the Third Reich and Jewish Palestine, which won
the 1984 Carl Sandburg Award for best non-fiction and was nominated for a
Pulitzer Prize. Mr. Black will relate his experiences in writing this
best-selling historical account, and will also present his collection of
research material for this project to Spertus Institute's Chicago Jewish
Archives.
Armin Mueller-Stahl is an internationally
renowned German actor whose films include Music Box (1989); Avalon (1990);
Shine (1996), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best
Supporting Actor; and Conversations with a Beast (1996), a character study

insightful portrayals of victims, perpetrators and witnesses of the
Holocaust, Mr. Mueller-Stahl will receive the Doctor of Humane Letters
honorary degree from Spertus. In accepting this degree, he will reflect on
the personal experiences and perspectives that have impacted his life and
